Got a hi-po 2110 in my 70 bus, it's quick, real quick for a bus but I want to do some racing next year. Thinking of upgrading to an FK 10 and a slightly lighter flywheel.
Thoughts please |

The FK10 likes higher RPMs and is not as street able at low RPMs. |

Ah right. Is it severely less street able? |

I miss the snappyness of the fk8 over the 86c I switched to. I too would recommend against going bigger than an fk8 in a bus. That cam is really an awesome profile tbh. Additionally, I would stay with the heavy flywheel. You drive it more than you race and the heavy flywheel is a benefit to the everyday driving. You can race the fk8 and id look into the option of more port work, more cr and adding on an ext fan oil cooler. |

Thank you for your input :) yeah it's got a full weight balanced flywheel for that reason and the K8 is a nice all round cam. Tame but mean if needed. Yeah perhaps bumping the cr up a bit some more porting would be the way forward.
Got a big external cooler with a scoop already. |

Like everybody said,i would not put a FK 10 in a bus motor.
I have a 2110 with a FK 10 in my beetle and i really like it.
But i would not like to have it in a bus.
It is fun when you rev it and that is not what you need in abus.

Are you using 1.4 rockers? |

There is also a SIGNIFICANT jump from a FK8 to a 86C. - like 1˝ group  and maybe 20 hp on top if the set up is good. I would´nt chose an 86c for a daily either, unless it was say a 2,5 - 2,7 l. Oxy boxer.
The FK8 is a quite ok choice for a nippy bus. But like said, 2110 cc and more than FK8 is pushing it, unless you go fancy and use a split duration cam. But then we would need to know exactly how your cylinderheads flow (and what the rest of the set up is.)

go to an FK45, you'll bump your lift. I'm pretty happy with my FK44 in my 2165 engine. |

What is the rest of the combo?
Speculation is fun but until you provide the other parts of the puzzle it is all just guessing....
