View original topic: woke up to a puddle of oil

Went from LA to Pamona last night. Maybe an hour drive. When I got back home I parked and went to sleep lol. Next morning there's a puddle of oil under car, but not under the plate more towards the tranny. Checked oil level and it was low. .
My car is pretty low. Maybe 3 inches off the ground.
Could it be because my car is so low?
I never had had this problem with it at stock height. . Any suggestions? ..

You may have blown your main seal behind the flywheel.

Is that possible?
How would that have happened? From it being to low? Or cuz the trip

Rubber fails sometimes. Also what size oil pump do you have?

Read the oil leaks section on Rob and Daves aircooled pages. If it is the main seal the oil will come from between the engine and the transaxle.

I have have no idea about the oil pump.

What's the best quality main seal?

Is it engine oil or gear lube?

If it's engine oil and it's probably not related to being too low unless you hit the sump on something.

But if it's gear oil it may be from being too low.

So first determine if it's engine oil or gear lube. They will both leak from the same place if it's the engine main seal or the transmission input shaft seal.

I think it's engine oil. How can you tell?

The oil level was between the 2 notches. But I checked after the puddle and it was below . Way below. That's why I think it's oil.. u got me worried now...
How can I tell if its gear oil ? ..

Gear oil smells very different than engine oil.

I bet you sucked up a valve cover gasket, check that first.
