I'm trying to find the right socket so I can take off my steering wheel for security reasons 8)

Pretty sure it's a 30mm, but could be 27mm. It's one of those.

30mm is too large. It's either a 27 or 28mm

Nobody knows for sures? I want to order the socket on Walmart.com

27 sounds right, I use the same Hazet socket made for old Rabbit Diesel injectors :)

You could just measure across the flats with a metric ruler too

It's 27mm on my 66.

27mm definitely. You'll also be able to use that socket on the two large bolts on the ends of the frame horns. That's the only place on bugs where I've found I need a 27mm socket.

In a pinch, or if it's easier to find, a 1-1/16" socket is an identical match. That's the size impact socket I've used for years on frame horn bolts.

But, I like to use the Hazet socket for steering wheel nuts because it's thinwall and fit's without having to take off the horn ring.
As far as mobility and ease of use, it also has a through hole for use with a jimmy bar instead of a big clunky ratchet :)
