View original topic: Will Geolander AT 215/75/15 fit on my west?
gbrandt Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:50 pm

I searched and read and read and search and am still confused. This is a yes or no answer, not another tire thread...

Measuring centre cap to arch I get:

Right Rear: 17.0"
Right Front: 16.5"
Left Front: 16.5"
Left Rear: 17.0"

On my semi loaded Westy, it will get heavier! Will the Geolander AT 215/75R15 fit without rubbing or hitting the arch?

I currently have 215/65R15 on with no problems, but we are talking 1.8" inches wheel diameter difference.

Edit: Brand new shocks and springs from GoWesty installed, not lifted!

Thanks
Gregor

There is a sticky thread listing all the tires that fit .
Looks like you are in luck.
Double check though.

That thread is unclear on whether this particular tire fits or not on a non syncro

I believe the correct answer is NO!

a 215x75x15 will not fit without a lift, it also wont fit the stock tire carrier (if you intend to carry a matching spare)

They will rub when the wheel is turned and you go down a dip or drop off onto the shoulder. It only happened just a few times over 15,000 miles but I ended up cutting off the bottom of the arch and installing some black trim over the cut.

Ok! Thanks for the answer. What about the 205/75R15, its an inch smaller in diameter but still 98S load rating

I dont know. I have no experience with 16.5" ride height. I hope you figure it out and share what you learn.

I think that tire is 27.1" and the what tire fits thread says a 26.8" will fit, but it doesn't mention ride height

sounds like you're going to be heavy, I recommend you go with at least a C rated tire.

The 205/75R15 have rubbed on occasion but only on a hard turn and then a big bump. I would recommend a lift for these tires.

Mine is currently 17" to 17.5", maybe a 1/2" to 1" taller than you. I have run the Geolander AT 215/75R15's for over a year now. Even heavily loaded for a trip and running down dirt roads, I have yet to rub a tire.

Dirt roads? Check.

Before the lift, while still on Carat springs, I ran 215/70R15 tires. They too never rubbed. Here they are with the Carat springs... 5 years and many mods ago.

With a 1" spacer on the rear springs.

And the 215/70R15's after the lift. Before I added all the weight of the CHC top, cabinets, tire rack, etc, we were at 18" on all corners.

The 215/70R15 may be a good compromise for you. The bonus is the hit on performance won't be as severe with the shorter 70 series.
