View original topic: When will it end?

For something that originally sold for about $1 per lb, it boggles my mind to see what folks are asking for their buses. Not sure when stabilization will, if ever, occur and this topic has been discussed ad nauseum. The VW split window bus represents an icon of its era and is sought out more than any other VW in my opinion. A special thank you to Barrett and Mecum for ensuring we go broke in the process of fulfilling a dream.

Not one to drop a problem and bitch without offering solutions, so i've thought about it and maybe this very website can help with this issue by doing a very simple thing:

ADD A COMMENTS SECTION TO ALL AUTO CLASSIFIEDS

Nowadays anyone can post an ad for a bus for sale on thesamba and boom, they're done. Done with asking $20K for a rusted out shell of a 13 window without direct feedback or discussion from the community...not saying direct feedback from the community will make the seller see the err of his/her ways by asking such a ridiculous amount for a 47+ year old vehicle, but I think calling out sellers (in real time) may help stabilize the meteroric rise in asking prices. Shame, in this case may be a good thing. And yes, a bus is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Thoughts?

Haters and know nothings commenting in a free-for-all type discussion on something I'm selling, directly where potential buyers are looking at it? no thanks, go buy and sell your stuff on FaceBook in one of the many vw swap meet type groups that have popped up

I can sympathize with your frustration my friend. Prices for buses are skyrocketing……

But don't you think it is kind of crazy to blame Mecum or Barrett for the prices going up. I didn't see them putting guns to the heads of the bidders. It's called free market, old-fashioned capitalism. Supply and demand at its finest!!

I personally think that many of the owners attempting to sell their buses for outrageous prices are smoking crack ……. but last time I checked this was still America and people are still free to dream of crazy prices for their prized possessions.

ASKING crazy money and GETTING crazy money are two totally different beasts.

The bus community is unfortunately FULL of haters and I think that a "comments section" for ads is not a good idea.

Let the free market decide true value …. I don't need the misguided, misinformed peanut gallery talking smack on everything I have for sale.

Agreed. TheSamba knew what he was doing when he set it up this way.

You nailed it Erik.
L41ThreeFold covered it well too.

What the OP proposed is not a solution AT ALL, it will provoke idiocy and would be a nightmare for the site moderators (mostly me).

In fact, this very conversation is a Whine Topic so if you want to continue, please use that thread
