View original topic: Vanagon 091 Trans in a Bay

I'm looking to buy an engine/trans from an aircooled Vanagon to go in my '73.

I'm aware of the exhaust/tin changes that need to be made to make the engine work.

I'd like to use the matching trans in the bus too (though I do have the 002 in the '73 still).

I keep reading that the 'nosecone' needs to be changed to swap the early Vanagon trans into the Bay.

One guy I inquired about a nosecone to says that I will also need the housing just behind the nose cone to make it work.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? All I see in searching is mentions of the nose cone with no mention of the housing directly behind it. I'm aware that the Vanagon shifter coupling pokes out of the housing, but is that a real issue? Or would it just sort of be flopping around when shifting with the nose shifter?
