the motor is a 1600cc stock with pertronix and dual cannon exaust.
i dont mind switching to a 009 distributor if needed.
it will see alot of off road dust, so what kind of intake and filters should i use?
what do you think? |

i use a K&N air filter sprayed really good with their brand of oil. it is a complete unit with a hose clamp that mounts up directly to my stock carb. around the K&N unit i use a thick, dry foam pre-filter, also from K&N. the filter is washable and re-usable.

If you are running a stock motor, whats wrong with the stock carb? Just place a piece of hose( about 6") over the breather tube in the bore of the carb up into the air filter to prevent fuel sloshing and flooding. Then add a dual element filter as Herbie suggested. The other thing I would add is some sort of support, from the air filter to the top of fan shroud, to keep it from falling offin rough terrain.

You didn't say which carb you are using now. It depends on the type of terrain you drive on. The class 5 racers use a single pict 30 and go faster then you probably would. Keep it stock for the best lower end torque. My 2 cents, Ol' John

If you can find a zenith on ebay or privatly they are the best if not stick with your stock carb.

914 Dror,
I run DUAL EMPI 40mm SOLEX/BROSOL on my stock 1600 with no problems.
However, If you want better performance over stock carbs and low mantenance then go with a single EMPI Weber 40MM IDF Kit. You can use this on your 1600 or larger size motor.
Good Luck!!

You can also run it on your 914.
