Anyone ever done this?
I would prefer to install a new top (grey canvas) without the inside "headliner". Wondering if anyone has done it? If so, how did it work out?

The headliner goes in after the top installation. Are you wondering how it turned out or if it's possible? It is possible but you will hear more engine/outside noise while driving. |

Um...^... that's not quite accurate...
The headliner is installed first on a convertible.
The headliner and outside fabrics are 2 separate systems...
They are installed independently of each other...but the headliner must go in first as its sewn to the bows.
Yes.. I had a 67 convertible and installed the top without a headliner..
It worked out perfectly.
Yes you could see the, foam and bows. It was less bulky and of course allowed more noise and less insulation.
Frankly.. I preferred it... but it was just a good warm weather driver.
If you never plan to add a headliner... go for it... but If you think you may want a headliner later.....you know the answer..

Thanks Wagnut....
As soon as I fabricate the wood pieces that rotted away, I'm going to put a new top on, sans the liner....
Never had a headliner on any of my old Chebbies, so I see no need for one on the bug...
Where in NC are you? Shuffle between Greensboro and Oak Island here... |
