So i recently broke my nose cone and i just bought a new one. Obviojsly i have to take out the motor. My question is do i have to take the whole tranny out to replace it or can i just loosen the front and rear bolts and pry it back a little bit? I have a swing axle if that matters. The numbers on the case point to irs but it is a swing, i assume it was rebuilt as a swing

You could unbolt is a back it up a foot or so but when you have gone that far you just take it out and make working on it easy. It is not a matter of backing it out a few inches it needs to come out quite a bit. Yes it is common practice to build swings on IRS cases.
