View original topic: Excessive Cylinder Heat

So, I just got my Baja up and running.
Long, long road, but well worth it.

The problem I'm having is that #4 is running really hot.
After running the engine for 5 min the exhaust pipe on
that cylinder is super hot compared to the others.

Any suggestions? Advice?

how are the valves for that cylinder? Did you just rebuild the motor ?

GetPsycho Fri Sep 19, 2014 11:13 am

No on the rebuild.
Ive had the jugs off the passenger side, and everything
looked great. I've. Had the heads off both sides
to replace the rods. That was awhile ago, but i don't
recall them looking bad.

Is it a single port or dual port? are you running dual carbs or single?

GetPsycho Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:22 pm

Sorry,
Single port, single carb.

check compression on all others?
check for air leaks
could have 3 problem cylinders, 5 min. of running they should all be way to hot to touch :!:

a simple little test would be, start cold, and hold all exhaust right on header to see if they warm evenly ( they should)

After 5 min they're all too hot to hold on to.
1 & 2 are the same temp.
4 is like twice as hot as 1-2.
3 is in the middle.
Hope that made sense.
I really can't thank you guys enough for
the suggestions.

Are you running an OEM fan shroud and deflectors to
direct flow to the cylinders ? Is the fan shroud a dog
house style shroud ?

Thanks for the link, good read.
Yes, I'm running a stock shroud
and stock tins. I plan to do a
compression test today.
