Hi all,

For a while now my ’79 Westy has been making an odd clunking sound when I take off in first or reverse, and now it’s stuck in 4th gear. I figure it’s time for a rebuild and while there are many transmission shops in my area that could probably do the work, obviously I’d like to take it to someone who knows Type 2’s. Anyone have any experience with local D/FW shops?

If that doesn’t pan out, who are the major mail-order rebuilders for our busses?

Suggestion:

Get ahold of these guys at Texas Airheads Club , [email protected], and see who they suggest that could take a look at your bus locally to see if a transmission rebuild is even needed.

Try Doug at Qualitat in Grand Prairie. If he can't do it he knows who can.

I'm running a rebuilt transmission from Kelly at the Bug Stop for 3 years now. Leaks a bit though. Other than that, no problems.
