Any tips for reinstalling the throw out bearing. Spring coil faces down, yes? Retaining spring arms seem like they would need to stretch a fair bit before locating on the arm. Am I missing something?

you'll be tempted to push on the spring with a flat head screwdriver; don't do that. you'll be replacing it again in a week. it's been awhile since i did it but i was able to jam a screwdriver under the arm and lever it up towards the spring instead. much more solid approach. |

Always nice to let people know whwt you are working on. VW use several different throwout bearings over the years. |

I always put the spring towards the bottom, but I don't think it really matters. The bearing is supported by the guide and the spring just holds it back against the throwout arm. I just use a screw driver to push the spring into place, never had an issue with that damaging anything. |
