I saw an ad for the "Cheetah Bus" and was confused on what it was. From the looks of it, it looks either factory or slightly post factory. It also slightly resembles a champagne edition, but it is much earlier than any champagne.

What is this? A survivor of a rare breed of factory bus? Or a well done post production cosmetic makeover?

Never heard of a Cheetah. The bus has a Westy window on the pass. side and a Kombi window on the driver side. That bus has been molested, not sure what to think. Busdaddy will chime in.

It seemed to have interesting interior with a flip seat.. Hmmm... I hope he does, it is kind of interesting. I think it would look good if it was treated properly and touched up!

Who was the guy that has his Champagne Edition's stripes touched up by the same artist that did stuff for Evil Knievel?

Where do you see a flip seat?

Looks to me, like just another aftermarket stripe kit. Like so many Marques offered back in the 70's when they were popular.

Looks like a 73 Kombi with a dealer tart up package consisting of an Earl Schieb coat of brown below the beltline and some sporty locally applied stripes, could have been done in the early 80's for that matter as stripe jobs with catchy words like spirit, shadow, graphics of running horses, etc... were in vouge at that time.

I seem to recall something similar in the striped bus thread but Cheetah doesn't get a hit with search.

Ahhh, it was Tiger, not Cheetah: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=475335&highlight=tiger

In the 80's, I bought a new fiat, they had a special model called "Eager Beaver". It was a standard model with dealer installed decals of a beaver and stripes on the sides. It was funny back then.

 Obviously, with the name Cheetah emblazoned on the side, it's max speed is approximately 70 MPH in short bursts, then lays around in the sun most of the day.

This bus started life as a standard. No headliner back 3/4 and the board interior pieces. Im willing to bet the two tone is a later addition like the sticker and that westy window.

I've seen this 'cheetah' before

Pretty sure it's not a 1973, unless it's a very late model. No gas door and different, than 1973, slider handle. My guess a 1974; engine door hinges.

Now I want to see this "Eager Beaver!" In fact, one could say I am EAGER! 8)
