Later,Mitch.

Oh, hell yea! Even at very least a Haynes book!

DanGreen Sat May 01, 2004 1:10 pm

Thanks guys! I think I'm gonna get the "Baja Bugs and Buggies" book just to be sure. I havent started anything yet and probably wont for a while but if I have troubles, I'll be back. I have the Haynes book and IMO it blows. It has more pics and info about super beetles then standard beetles!

Whats the max angle stock cv's can take? I might just raise the rear a spline or two and level out the car.

www.blindchickenracing.com has the info about the CV angles as well as lots of cool stuff

blind chicken has lots of cool parts and they can custom build almost any of the lift components you would need to your specs. Pretty decent! :D

I purchased 2 stub shafts, 2 axles, 4 cv's and 4 boots for $100 from this company http://www.germanautodismantlers.com/home.asp What I got was parts for a 924 porsche. The stubs are the same as a bug except the flange is larger. The cv's are the same as type 4's. The axles are the perfect length for a bus trans in a bug torsion housing. I have been running these in my buggy for awhile and haven't had any trouble with the cv's. My spring plates are notched enough to allow for 10's of real wheel travel.....Hope this helps somebody.....[/url]

b42575p Sun Sep 05, 2004 7:01 pm

oh yea, I got the bolts too.......

HamburgerBrad Sun Sep 05, 2004 10:21 pm

how much travel do you think you can attain with this CV setup?

b42575p Sun Sep 05, 2004 11:32 pm

10" seemed to be all on my buggy, with stock trailing arms. any more and the cv's began to bind...

HamburgerBrad Sun Sep 05, 2004 11:44 pm

that crazy a-arm setup up front and you're running stock rear arms?

I've recentally changed to 3x3's....

I'm still using the 924 cv's but can't seem to get more than 12" of travel without binding.... 930's are in my future.

Hey b42575p, not sure of your fab skills but you might want to look into moveing your tranny back some to get rid of some of the compound angles, then you`ll get the most from those arms and CV`s. Just a thought. AR

I'm gonna run it like this for the rest of the year. Then I'm gonna rework the rearend. Thinking of removing the torsion housing and going coilovers. Then again I might just build another chassis, I've got hundreds of hours in modifiying this one and think I would have been better off building another car instead of doing an a-arm front on this one.

Anbody interested in this chassis?

Now that I saw your buggy, I`m sure you got the mad fab skills! Looks good. Ar

I've picked up good complete assy's off of 924/944's too for various prices around and under 100 off of Rennlist.com in the classified before. gotta shop around, some people believe they are worth gold cause it's coming off a Porsche.

How much would you pay for good used 924 CVs axles and stubs out of the pick n pull? I currently have swing but want to convert. I don't have a tranny yet. Will the 924 tranny flanges work on a bus tranny? How much should I pay for thing tranny flanges if I go with a type 1 tranny?

b42575p Sat Dec 04, 2004 10:10 pm

If you use a type 2 trans, you won't have to change the flanges. Type 2 cv joints have the same bolt pattern as 924 cv joints. 924 joints are identical to type 181 or Thing joints. Good Luck and Happy building.

The angle that everyone is talking about...how is it measured? On the axle itself? I am putting togather the rear of my car ( 091 trans,3x3's,
930 cvc's, high torque starter, etc. :D ) right now. I need to know this so I can set up the travel accordingly. Thanks

angle of the articulation of the inner hub of the cv in relation to the bolted down outer hub. when you use longer as well as wider arms, the angle is not just in relation to the ground. you also need to take into account that the cv's are already running at an angle when the axle is horizontal to the ground

65BAJA Thu Dec 16, 2004 6:53 pm

I just got back from the pick n pull. Picked up some axle assemblies out of a 924 turbo. Inner and outer CVs, inner axles, outer stub axles, and all the bolts for $83. The boots are in great shape, and I can't feel any play in the CVs. I'm going to go back tomorrow for some stock IRS arms from a bug. I saw an early IRS bug there with the double sided spring plates. Now all I need is one of those box in kits for the IRS arms and a couple of weekends to put it all on my baja.

What years 924 should I look for?
