So it recently started raining here in So Cal, so now i decided to wire up my windshield wipers. I've been going based on the 1967 VW Diagram but i keep blowing my fuse. So i need help wiring the Wiper motor to my Wiper Switch. PLEASE. I am using using my bug as my daily driver so i really need to get this working. any help?

center left W is wiper motor .....under it is the switch E

31b black wire from switch to motor
53 black wire from switch to motor
53a black and red from switch to motor
53b yellow black to motor

31 on switch 12 volt to fuse

switch has to be grounded...clean it

Confusing that the drawing has 6 wires and only 5 pin designations .

31 on the switch is ground. It does NOT go to the fuse box.
The power wire from the fuse box goes to the + tab on the switch.

The dimmer switch on the column grounds through terminal 31 on the wiper switch. The wiper switch itself is grounded through its housing to the metal dash.

YOU should take ANOTHER look at the DRAWING !!!
31 black wire direct to the fuse !!!!
There isn't any contact 30 on the switch E !!!

You're right, #30 would be for a later switch, a 67 would still be labeled "+".

You connect 31 to the fuse box and you'll blow the fuse as soon as you turn the key.

#31 is a standard designation for a ground terminal. Just as #30 is a standard designation for a constant +12V terminal, or #15 for switched +12V.

If you are trying to tell me that 31 is the designation for the brown wire below the number 31 then what is the designation for the black wire to the right of the number 31

I can only work with the drawing I have ...do you have other sources ?
I am teachable.......

+: black wire to fuse box (wiper power) (Look for the + in the lower left corner of the switch in the diagram) (In '68, this changed from + to #30)
53: black wire to wiper motor 53 (low speed)
53b: black/yellow wire to wiper motor 53b (high speed)
53a: black/violet wire to wiper motor 53a (park power)
31b: brown wire to wiper motor 31b (park ground)
31: brown wire to dimmer switch (ground toggle for dimmer relay)
(unlabeled): ground symbol to wiper switch body (park ground)

Circled 4: Wiper motor grounds through case mounting to body. (But can also be a separate brown wire from wiper motor #31 to ground depending on year/part.)

I have never seen this designation before so 13nunez you are left with following the wire colors on the non designated terminals .

The wiper switch is GROUNDED just by being bolted to the dashboard! Terminal 31 on the switch is not for the wiper circuit at all, it is a "source" of ground for other circuits.

Some Official VW diagrams weren't laid out very well. I went in and "fixed" the wiper diagram here, making it easier to see what designation goes with which wire:

As Andy says that factory diagram can be a little confusing, but yes, 31 is always ground, and the black wire is simply labeled with a "+" sign -- you have to look really really closely to see it on the diagram. Another giveaway is the color -- solid black, on a VW, is always switched power.

I have the full diagram but think this wiper only one would be more clear to me

Nicely done. That switch on the diagram is reall easy to mix up the + and 31 terminals. You sure can't count on the colours being right on a thrice rewired a Beetle.....
