I know this is an old subject, but i would like as much and input and pictures if anyone has them. I am just finishing up the welding on my pans and want input on por15, hammerite, or whatever other finish that is out there. Also some input on seam sealers that you may have used. Also ease of use, how well the product worked, how well its held up for you over the years, and any drawbacks on any products you may have tried
Thanks Ed |

here is my pan i painted with POR 15
the only thing i didn't like was the drying time and the whole UV and fading deal.
anyone know the time frame as far as how long it takes for this fading to occur?
other wise i am pretty pleased with the POR 15, it seems very tough and easy to apply. i spent the extra money for the marine clean and the metal ready.
just my $.02

| The pan looks good. Tell me, what did the pan look like before you did the POR thing... Did you sand blast it or wire wheel it? |

| I would use Picklex 20 then Zero-Rust over that. Zero-Rust comes in 9 different colors and can be mixed to get a custom color too. |

the dry time was almost a complete day.
POR 15 needs humidity to dry. i painted mine on a arizona 2% humidity day at 70 degrees. i would think under better conditions that would not be an issue.
i used a quart to do the complete pan, top and bottom. i put it on pretty thick.
here are some pics of what i looked like when i started...
i replaced one side of the pan.
all i did for prep was wire wheel it really good. marine clean, metal ready, tack cloth and paint.

Scott
compared from what you started with that came out awsome. as far as the uv damage since the pan will never get any uv exposure i would think it should hold up forever on the inside if this stuff is as good as they say.
your dry time was one day at 2% humidity we run about 89% year round in washington so that leans me back toward the por 15 side
thanks for all the input and the pics

i am without garage space right now and am putting my pan together under a covered area. i am just worried about the top fading in the time it takes to get the paint and body work done. so i can put the body on the car.
i would think it should work well for you.
this is the first time i have used this stuff and i would have powdercoated it but i had some spots to fill. over all i am pretty pleased with it.
good luck and post pics when you get yours done.

| I also have had great luck with Por-15 on my pans. They have a product for seams called PorPatch. This is a car that has been up north since it got here in 1975. Go to the www.por15.com for more info. There also is RustBullet at www.itkillrust.com which I have not used, but will test soon. |
