Ok so my search mojo is not working...
I have an old VW Bus I bought and the motor doesn't have a engine code stamp like I'm used to looking for on my other motors. Typically there would be something there under the alternator/generator stand.
Is anyone able to educate me on why a block wouldn't have a code stamped?

| Replacement block, possible a type 3 block (look at the top case seam for a stamped engine #) |
