Just came back home after a great weekend in Finland. Went out in the woods outside Mäntsälä to see some nice Volkswagen on the icy roads.

All three cars shown have hoods that are not body colored. Is that a thing in Finland?

it seems to be a signifier that it is a rally car in the vw world. i think it dates back to at least the early 60's and the scania vabis rally cars. a lot of the time flat black is used to cut the glare off the bonnet at night (or when driving into the sun).
