Everett and I suspect the table here in the FAQs is incorrect for buses built between August of '66 (these would be 1967 buses) and October 1966. If you have one of these buses, and it has the OG engine. Please throw your stamped number on here. Maybe we can straighten that table out.

So far we have one with an Oct. 17th birthday - HO 199245

Oooooh! ....Oooooh! ....I wanna play!

My '67 was produced on Jan 20th, 1967 and according the VW "birth certificate" it had engine number H0 701859 in it from the production line!

I hope that helps!

Thanks Bill, but yours is way too modern for our dilemma. Funny though , my birth certificate gave no engine number.

This is my 67 DC.

Engine # B5046480

That's a very late '67 1600 I think. December '67 motor.

B cases are 1600's beginning production was 1968

Might try cross checking that info with the "Progressive Refinements":

http://oacdp.org/

Has a "Production Numbers" list up in the front of all sorts of ID numbers including front beam. Plus in each of the following sections you can often narrow down the engine numbers to a week or even a few days.

Actually, you're a September bus, not August. That 16 9 on your M-Tag (mine is 19 9, three days later) is a "planned" build date...the 16th of September. If you get your birth certificate, it will have the actual build date which always seems to be within a few days of the planned one. You obviously don't have the original motor in your bus unless it had a flux capacitor.

Thanks Ken, clearly i cant count the months on my fingers either

I didnt order a BC for the DC.

That would have been soooo cool if it weren't for 1968 Bay Windows!

kenshapiro2002 Wed Feb 25, 2015 3:19 pm

Here's the correct page and it has the same screwy numbers we have here on the Samba...obviously where it came from in the first place. Maybe if we can get some actual members falling in here with actual numbers of OG engines...

From what I gather... if you provide the museum an engine number when submitting request for birth cert... if it's the right number, they'll confirm.... if it's the wrong number, they're silent. I think they stopped 'giving' out the numbers quite a while ago.

Chassis number = 24706XXXX

M-code decoder says

Model year 1967

Planned production date = January 28, 1966

Engine number = HO 574954

Something is off somewhere.

Hmmmmmm... looks right to me.

Am I not thinking about this right? Wouldn't a planned date of January 1966 be a 1966 model?

kenshapiro2002 Thu Feb 26, 2015 6:14 pm

Oh yeah! Engine number makes sense for a January 1967 build. Think you need that birth certificate redone.

Michael1960 Tue Sep 22, 2015 1:23 pm

My bus is a 67 deluxe with a chassis number: 247066478
Planned production date: Dec 1966

The motor that came in it was a 1600 duel port - obviously not the original.
I am currently running a Porsche 912 motor and IRS, but am now planning on returning to a stock, original configuration.

I am looking to find a correct H0 code motor. What number(s) would fit that build?
Also I have seen that H0 code cases were also used in Beetles and Ghia's of the same vintage - how do I tell the difference, or are these cases / motors all the same?
