Been out of the loop a bit so I don't know the answer to my question, and I did a search but no specifies what they are running.

My question is if I run the CIP Porsche Cosmics, do I need to use a long axle or short axle. I know with Raders it's short axle, but I think the offset is different and more backspace on Cosmics. So long or short axle? Anyone know?

Give us a 'link' to the wheel you are contemplating buying, but the 15" Cosmics are not that wide or deepset I don't think.

I have short axles in the rear, and had to space them out to keep the tire and rim from rubbing. IIRC, I used 1/2" spacers.

I know they are all long axle. But I'm in the middle of putting a tranny together and was wondering if I should put long axle or short axle on for the Cosmics. When I did the JGE Raders a few years ago I needed to put short axles on for more room. But the cosmics seem to have more backspace so I was wondering if this time I need long axles.

I think 5.5" ET45 wheels will fit fine on a KG w/long axles. Mike doesn't really need short axles it doesn't look like from this pic?

What size tire do you want to run? I have short axles on my car and I'm running gas burners with a 35mm offset and 205/65/15 tires. I just recently added 1/8" spacers to shim the wheels out so they don't rub on the spring plate and subframe. I believe the cosmics have a 45mm offset which is only 1mm less than a stock wheel, but they are an inch wider. I'm sure you would have no problems with staying long axle if you run the cosmics with a 195 or smaller.

I was thinking 185 60 in rear I think that is the size close to stock, front unsure. I had 145/ 65 once, and I liked the look of the tire on the rim but had a lot of rubbing issues. So not sure what size in front. Maybe 165 50?

Hi Joe,
I am using those rims on my 1966 swing axle equipped fasty. (long axle this is). 165/65/15 up front and 185/65/15 in the back. I lowered the front 3 splines which is a little too much, so some rubbing in full lock-up is the consequence. In the rear, lowered ~2 splines, there is no rubbing or whatsoever.
One important note: Using these rims on a Type 3 rear drum brake requires at least a 5 mm spacer! The outer diameter of the Type 3 drum is greater than the Type 1 drum. Due to the slight convex inner shape of the rim, the spokes hit the outer drum diameter before the center is fully seated against the drum! Ignoring this might cause fatal issues!
If you convert to Porsche 5x130 bolt pattern by using beetle rear drum setup, no issues here!

And great tip about the rear. I have drums that are sized to t3 but porsche pattern, so probably need the spacers.
