This website is a treasure trove of good info for the VW SCs and DCs:

Also I believe the late 66 to 67 gates are different than all of the rest since there is a rectangle pressing behind each hinge, which continued into the bay gates. I do not know if the width of the bed changed at all, so an early bay rear gate could still fit a split??
My early 66 did not have this rectangle pressing.

'67 is the one year w/ the pressing around the hinges, '66 did not have that.
I just noticed last summer my '66 has a ' 67 gate on one side (pass. side), and a '66 on the other.....
It also had a '67 Pass. side rear quater panel added, it has the indent for the gas door, '67 only........ |

What does the pressing seem to have achieved? Was that a weak area that cracked in earlier versions? If so, how does the pressing come into play or is it just cosmetic? |

My 67 DC only has the pressing on the rear gate, the side gates do not have it.
