I plan on painting my whole car by hand using roller and paintbrush, go all artistic :p
I will be using enamels as I can get these in nicer colours than acrylics. I was told that all I need to do after is to put some lacquer over it and sand out any imperfections (e.g. brushstrokes).
My car that I will be trying this out on is kind of a beater experimentation car, so I'm not worried if I screw up that much, but i do want a nice finish anyway!
I'm pretty sure I know how to do everything as someone already explained it to me, but i was just wondering if anybody has done their own car art with brushes and that came out really well?
Thanks all! |

| Also, could I use small amounts of automotive paint (PPG OEM finish paints) with a brush for some areas of the car because there are a few metallic colours that I cannot get in enamel form like the rest of the colours? |

The problem I see is using the two different types of paint. The automotive finishes are usually a two or three part paint, i.e. you add a catalyst to the paint to activate it --- letting it dry and harden. This may not work well with a brush, you may run out of time, or end up with a finish that looks like you put it on with a broom.
I painted a 79 Ford PU with a wagner and a bucket of krylon at a farm where I used to work. It looked like crap and on a hot day you could scrape the paint off with your fingernails. |

I have painted several busses by hand. What I have found to work the best is 1-shot lettering enamel. This is the type of enamel paint that sign makers/ lettering shops used prior to the invention of plastic lettering. It can be purchased at most automotive supply shops. When thinned with Delstar DTR602 reducer it can be applied with airbrush and/or paint gun. For more product info contact the 1-Shot company: 219-949-1684 www.1shot.com
Here's a couple of busses that I painted using their products.
