View original topic: Fuel Line Routing question for a 1974 Super Beetle

I am wondering if anyone knows where the fuel line hooks to the tank on my 74 SB? Is it the bottom of the tank, or does it come in elsewhere?
I noticed that the hoses are not braided rubber as well, so I was planning to swap them out.
Interesting enough, there is also a fuel filter between the tank and the tunnel, and another fuel filter between the fuel pump and the carb.

On my 73 super the line is on the bottom of the tank. I can't imagine it being in a different location on a 74.
Loosen the 4 13mm bolts around the tank and look under it. (if your tank is low on fuel that will help)

Info from a newbee who did it before.

If you are looking at the first filter inthe front -then you should follow thru to the tank -bottom.

I can't see it from the bottom. The hose goies up through a hole in some sheetmetal. I am running her pretty dry this week, to make it easier to check, and to run the last 4 replacement hoses for the fule vapor recovery system. Those 2 up under the left side of the airbox are killer.

the fuel line is located on the passenger side of the tank on the bottom. It is easier to access if you remove the 4 hold down bolts that hold the tank in the trunk. With the tank loose you can lift it up and rotate it and from underneath you can remove the hose and clamps. just make sure it is drained out. i suggest removing the inline filter if it still located there as it will most likely be clogged. as long as you have an inline filter coming from the tank in the engine compartment that is plenty. I pulled my filter that the previous owner installed under the tank and out of neglect was so clogged that it restricted fuel to the engine. Now it runs great but i still have the inline filter in the engine compartment.

I took my filter out of the engine compartment and installed it under the fuel tank. Much safer and still easy to get to.

I have a fuel leak in my 73 SB. It only leaks when the tank is over halfway full and it is hot outside. The car had a new tank when I bought it. The leak is coming from underneath the car below the tank. The best I can tell is that it is related to the VAPOR RECOVERY HOSE. It runs from the passenger side of the tank, around the rear of the tank to the driver's side, and then under the tank. I still have to find time to get under the car and see where it's going.

I am not mechanically inclined at all. Please, can someone tell me what the hose is supposed to attach to? Thanks so much for any help anyone can possible give!
