Does anyone know how the metal original floor bed was covered.

When i got my westy it had 2 sheets of plywood about 1/4 -1/2 inch thick. The second piece [being on top] was not as big as the whole floor bed and only covered 3/4 of the bed...

PLEASE HELP IF YOU KNOW ..

Should just be a cushion shouldn't it? Could the PO have found it too soft to sleep on and put those boards underneath?

The origianl pieces didn't cover the entire floor. The bottom piece, the thicker of the two goes back about to the rear heater vent, the top piece with the carpet (I've got a late Bay) goes back almost to the firewall, but not quite. When/ if you replace them, you need to get the same thickness and they need to be the same size or you rcabinets won't sit right (ask me how I know this  )

Interesting.

I have a '73 Westy and I should be getting to the floor soon.
Since mine was gutted by that butcher at Lodi Welding, I have
no idea how it all goes back together.

Can anyone provide the sizes and thicknesses of the original plywood?

Thanks!

Paul

Christian,

Looking at your pictures answered some questions for me. Since I'm done with Kool Patch-ing and facing the putting back of the interior, maybe you could share what you did on your floor?

It looks nice, what materials did you use? Does the "furniture" have wood underneath?

Thank's for the detailed images. I needed that

For my floor I basically did some research on the original westy floor and how it was suppose to look like. I found that most people said used two pieces of plywood about the same thinkness.

Basically first i sprayed some rustoleum spray on the metal part to prevent further rust. The I took my two original pieces of plywood, used them as templates, and just cut out some new wood for the floor. After deciding to keep one piece and replacing the other, the one i was going to keep broke. Recently someone told me about this nasa silver bubbly stuff so I went to home depot and purchased some. Turned out that i just used that stuff in replacement for the piece that broke. Getting back to the point, I then placed carpet padding over the top piece of plywood [keep in mind the bubbly stuff was placed first then the plywood] and after that I placed that carpet. Then i went to buy some moldings and basically screwed that down all the way to the nasa stuff [note that i did not screw to the metal because i wanted to have some air circulate down there. Thats pretty much it here are the sizes for wood etc.

Nasa Bubbly Stuff: Availabe at Local Home Depot for app 45 bucks or Ganuhl for 2.29 a foot. x 48 inches wide.

Wood Floor Plywood: Home Depot; however i do not remember what kind of wood this was. However it is a 1/4 inch thick and i then stained that with Polyeurathane Clear Gloss also availabe at Home Depot.

Carpet: Home Depot has many types.. Get OUTDOOR/INDOOR thats the best.

Metal Molding: Home Depot or Ganhaul Lumber Co. about 8 bucks a pop.

-sorry for the late reply
