While re-wiring my horn today I had the panels out of the front of the bus.
Down at the bottom I found this tube just laying there. What is it?

It fell off and goes here:

Is it a drain?

Yes. It is the fresh-air plenum drain.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Llamas can you give me an idea on how you re-wired that horn ?

When I bought the bus last summer the horn was wired to a button on the dash left of the steering wheel. I wasn't sure why at the time. The wiring was broke when It got wrapped up in my steering under the floor.

My intentions were to wire it correctly back on the steering wheel but I couldn't get the wire run all the way down the steering collumn. I guess you have to take the entire collumn off.

I ended up rewiring it back to the switch on the dash. I would like to do it where it's wired to the steering wheel. Maybe somebody has some input on this. Do I need to take apart the entire steering assembly?

Your earlier bus may have some different dimensions than my '73.
The weak spot for horn malfunctions seems to be that stupid connector at the end of the wiring from the horn that has to plug into the spade connector at the base of the steering column. What I did was to loosen the column support, the round thing with the two screws holding it to the floor, I then dropped the center pan, and with much cursing and getting tangled with my shop light, I did a side shot at the connector with a pair of skinny needle nose pliers and a tiny flat-bladed screwdriver to get the wire on securely. The wire harness must be properly inserted into that little tab on the column support to keep it clear of the coupler, and the connector itself must be crunched a bit to grasp the spade securely.
This is the UP-TO-THE-STEERING-WHEEL side of the (-) circuit. After the horn button has completed the circuit ( i.e. you're pushing on the button)
the little brown wire that disappears into the steering shaft completes the whole circuit at the steering box flange with a little brass eyelet at the end of the wire that is clamped with one of your coupler bolts. This eyelet MUST be grounded to the steering box flange, not the steering wheel shaft flange of the coupler. Stay away from people at the end of this job until you cool down. 8)
