View original topic: Method to glue down the laminate corners in my 77 Westy
sfbuckaroo Fri Feb 13, 2004 2:17 pm

I am the proud new owner of a 77 Westy with a near-perfect interior (people think the plaid upholstery is new). Trouble is, that wood grain formica is curling up at the corners. This isn't real noticible but I fear I am going to hit a corner and chip it-- looking at photos of other bus interiors I see that is a common condition.

Can anyone recommend a glue that will set quickly and keep the corners down? THANKS.

get some two-part epoxy that comes in a syringe. Slide some folded over sandpaper between the lifted laminate and the subsurface and lightly rough it up, then inject epoxy sparingly under the corner, and clamp with a couple of pieces of wood sandwiched to protect the table/counter from the clamps.

Wood glue doesn't work that well and has a long cure time but so far it hasn't peeled back 2 years later. Gorilla Glue on the other hand kicks butt.

Here's a second for Gorilla Glue- remember it foams a bit and you need to clean up the excess before it dries. Alternately, you could use contact cement- spread a thin layer on both sides, let it dry, and then stick it together.

im a kitchen fitter from england.over here we use a product called'color fill'.it comes as a pack containin 2 bottles.you choose the colormatch which is in the first bottle then with a cloth wipe the activator over the top.this sets hard in about 15 seconds and works every time.

I was looking at that Gorilla Glue the other day. How long does it take to set up? Does it need any clamping or does it hold as soon as it contacts?

Do watch for the foaming part. It's really strong so use it sparingly.

You should clamp any woodwork project as it distributes the glue and you'll be fighting the spring of the veneer anyway. Always clamp indirectly using a piece of wood in between the clamp and surface you are working with.
