Ok I was at the auto parts store today just kind of dubbing around (actually looking for a Valentines Day present for the missus) and came across this little gizmo (right next to the chrome fender dents):

www.microheat.com

that delivers hot windshield washer fluid to the windshield. I have seen similar type things before in old Volvos, but nothing quite like this. Anybody try them and do they have an electric washer pump built in? $150.

BTW NEVER buy you wife an air compressor for your 15th anniversary. Even if you buy her a good one, >5 hp, >125 psi, >60gallon tank, you will never hear the end of it!

Randy, you went to the auto parts store to look for a valentines gift?
Right on man! :D

Yeah I had read about these 6 months ago. They are supposed to be pretty cool. There's also a thing that heats your washer fluid, too.

The theory is at least sound. Anyone who has had to take a leak and their bus windshield has frozen up can attest to that.

Waste of money I think.

You're better off buying this windshield fluid that doesn't freeze (it's made by Rain X). VERY good stuff.

I used it in -36 degree weather, no problems. And it's $2 bucks. (Orangy, piss colored though, looks like someone took a piss on your windshield).

Here is where I was sort of going with this. I am thinking about doing the unthinkable, putting in a 12 pump to actually pump WW fluid onto the windshield. It might get me away from the problem of putting a little micro switch in the WW stalk.

I just don't know if this little unit is also a pump in it or not, and if anyone else has actually bought one before.

My buddy had an old '67 122S wagon that had the WW washer fluid hose wrapped around a heater hose for about 3 feet before it hit his WW and that actually worked pretty good also.

I not only do the Rain X thing, I should own stock in them.

I didn't see anywhere that says how hot this device gets the fluid. I don't know if I would want a hot shot of water hitting an ice cold windshield. Sounds like a cracked windshield waiting to happen. It sure would be nice to keep the wipers from freezing up though.

Hey they sent me an e-mail telling me that the model MH34-SA (GO) has a WW pump in there and mounts pretty easily in the kick panel area, with the switch in the dash. Fluid Temp is 145F, 30 second to heat it up for the first shot.

Cost is $180.

I am still trying to get over the $180 part. Might have to be an anniversary gift since Christmas is over.
