I just disassembled my first Beetle engine in 20 years.

Was totally excited how easily it came apart, only two sheered studs.
Well, everything went well until I rotated the engine upside down.
That's when it started raining, 2.5 Liters of oil all over the floor.
I had completely forgotten to drain the oil out of the engine.

Now I need to do some woodworking and make a capital L for my forehead.

Happy weekend.

Hey at least you didn't start it with no oil...

Don't forget the lifters when you reassemble...

Hey, it can happen.

I knew a guy back in the 80's and he did a top end rebuild on a Super Beetle and it started right up and ran awesome for about 10 minutes, then it just went dead, flat line dead.

Benjamin forgot to put oil in the engine but at least he was just driving around a big parking lot when it happened.

There is no moral of the story. It just so happens that most of us are not that mechanically inclined. :P

I will admit I have done this THREE times now throughout the years! Twice on the engine stand and once maneuvering a motor onto a storage shelf alone, thought I'd just tip it back with the crank vertical and heave it up and slip it on the shelf, got a lovely oil bath.
