Got this gasket (3 sets) in with some NOS stuff I picked up. Packaging says 'Dynachrome Line - Valve Cover Gasket , Volkswagen 59-up 30380' ... Its obviously not a VW aircooled valve cover gasket, and when I look it up online, it says its an oil pan gasket ...which doesn't add up either. Don't let the shape fool you ...the packaging is set up so it looks narrower at the top, but I think it installs in a rectangle shape.

Any suggestions on what it might be for???

My SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess): Automatic trans gasket of some sort? Never seen anything like that, and never seen a VW automatic trans either.
How long is it ( should have thrown a ruler in that photo) ? And the auto trans wasn't as early as '59, were they?

Yeah ...never thought about the ruler trick ...They're about 16 inches long on the outside, and 15.75 inches long on the inside, and at the wide end, the holes are 5 inches apart.

Any chance that it's a typo? 95 and up maybe?

That's a valve cover gasket for a Rabbit.

That looks like 056103483A - watercooled valve cover gasket, 6mm holes, with tabs. (The one linked above is not quite the same, it lacks the tabs)

Yeah ...I think you guys are onto something here. Definitely looks like a Rabbit gasket. Perhaps that's why DYNACHROME isn't around anymore!

Thanks.

It's too bad all you have is the valve cover gasket, I bet that ultra-rare '59 Rabbit would be worth quite a bit.

Likely a prototype. Probably got crushed and melted down with the original beetle VW body stamp molds ...hence, no repro Beetle bodies. (see my other current thread)

That would've been justifiable.

This, not so much.

I have, and I've thrown in my two cents worth.
