alright, i am sanding down my 64 bus getting ready to repaint. I get to the rear driver side corner and find alot of body filler, so i sand it to bare metal. i dont find any rust or anything just some descent sized dents and a long line from where the corner from the beltline down was welded in. not too big of a deal, just more bodywork than i was anticipating. Now i get to the other corner and it too has alot of body filler but i havent taken it down to metal, its pretty smooth and straight and is og metal. do you think i should spend the exta time getting all the filler off and start over or should i leave it and continue on with my prep work? I don't anticipate a best in show paint job as i am doing it myself and i have never done it before. but i would like it too last.

I ran into the same thing when I did my Ghia, I would take all of the old filler out and redo it. Most of the time you will find the metal could be worked a little better to limit the amount of filler you have to use. If you redo it you also have the piece of mind knowing whats under your paint job. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I also found lots of bondo on my Ghia. Under it I found pop-rivited panels over bondo, bondo over paint & rust, all kinds of crap that would have shown up later to ruin the paintjob.
Do it right, once, and never worry about it again.

I agree. Typically a novice will end up with the bodow cracking and showing later, after all the hard work of painting is done. Do it once, do it right. Just think of all you will learn by doing it yourself.
