| i want to dump my 2ltr engine for a new 1600.do i need to change the gearbox to a 1600 type or will it run on the 2ltr? |

The input shaft is too long. You can tell by looking to see how far back the hole in the Tpye 4 crankshaft is compared to the location of the gland nut on the Type I engine.
Can you swap in a different input shaft? Someone has probably tried... |

| You just need to have some length taken off the end of the input shaft, but if you ever want to go back to the 2.0 it will be to short. I am not sure the exact length that needs to be taken off, but I know that it is a common practice in the off-road world. Many people opt for the 091 trans and type1 engine in sandrail applications. |

The two measurements are both listed in Bentley if I remember correctly.
Nope, it's the workshop manual: 11mm. |

| so is it 11mm needing cut off or are they both the same 11mm in lenth.confused!!!.shall i just drop a 1600 gear box in(which i have from a donar 71 1600 bus? |

right,got it now.i have opted to go with the 1600 box because this all sounds abit tech for simple old me.anyone in england want a 2ltr with box??lol
