Hi !
I'm new here ! But I won't present myself cause I have little trouble with writing in English (I'm french from Canada). I hope you will understand me ! :?

I'm looking to buy a Westfalia between 74 and 79.
I would like to know the differences between the years. I know that 74-75 has a 1,8 l motor, but is it really different from a 2 l motor ? I don't know much about mechanics... Is it true that the 78-79 are more powerfull and more practical ?

I would also like to know what is really important to inspect before buying a westfalia ? Is it different between the different years ?

And finally... If I buy a Westy on the internet, how is it working for the shipping ? If I send to the person the money, and the guy don't send me the vehicle, or the renverse, it's not really cool :( ... So, how is it working ?

An how could cost a westfalia shipping from the west coast to the east ?

I don't know much about mechanics but I'm trying to learn cause having a Westfalia is an old dream ! :D I'm happy I found a forum like this one, and you all look very nice !

Thank you very much for your help and I hope my English is not so bad...

Have a good day !!!!

john muirs idiot book... ( the complete guide on how to keep your vw alive for the complete idiod ) does a pretty good idea of what to look for upon inspection. i would never buy a car without seeing it first..... in my personal opinion 1978 westys are the way to go. ive had a few of em ( of course ive never had a 77 or a 79 to compare it to but i like being short sited.
good luck.
