Hey everyone - I've been lurking around here for a few weeks and thought it was time to speak up.

I just bought my first bus (73 Automatic) this past summer - after only 7 years of trying to convince the wife :D I thought I was getting a pretty decent deal but my lack of mechanical knowledge came back to bite me. I just had the engine rebuilt as well as the transmission. Other than that, she's in pretty good shape - still being put back together though. Eventually needs some body work and a new paint job - last paint job was a brush job. Oh yeah, no emergency brake either - I'm hoping I can figure at least that out on my own. The interior is in great shape! Has everything but the tent.

I'm hoping to take the family on a journey early this summer. So far, we've only been around town. My daughter loves to be picked up from school in it. We've only camped once in it - out in the driveway :D

I hope to see some of you on the road someday. Later - Felton

Welcome..... where are you located? Take a look at the library at http://www.type2.com , you may find some answers. Or maybe at Ratwell's great site at http://homepage.mac.com/ratwell/

Good luck! Ask away, you'll get a lot of help in here!

Welcome! Be sure to use the search function, many questions have already been asked before. And if you haven't already, get a service manual (there's a good article on manuals on ratwell's site listed above).

Amazon has the current bay Bentley manual (no color wiring diagrams) for $32 with free shipping. Sometimes you can find used ones on ebay just a hair cheaper, and the older ones have color wiring diagrams.

Here's a couple on ebay right now
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3587174649&category=1132 $8.65 5 bids, up tomorrow

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34234&item=2460561463 $9.99 no bids yet, up in 3 days

Or new
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0837...ce&s=books

and used ones start at $18.95 + shipping

Have fun!

Check out the Mokan VW Club that is in your area. A lot of great bus people in the club who are also members of the Buskatiers who camp all the time. Mokan put on a great car show every spring/summer with a campout at the show for the weekend.
