I am going to replace the framehead on my 74 beetle. I just got a NOS framehead off ebay but now heard something about changes made to the head at some point over the years... Is this something I need to worry about? What changed?

Main difference:
The distance between the torsionbars is wider on the later framehead.

BTW. here is a link to the Workshop instructions for replacing the framehead.
(In Finnish though, but you can read the pictures. :wink: )

It is hard to say from that picture, you see the difference best viewed from the front (square or round opening)

The instructions are in two parts:
1. Instructions for chassis up to 119 462 847 on pages up to page 8.

2. Instructions from chassis 119 462 848 and up on pages 9 and up.

Looks to be the later of the two styles... Note the elongated holes on tha side of the newer style head and the bottom plate comes all the way back in a line, no curves. Your photos helped a lot! Now, how did you post them? I need to look into the features of this forum better! Thank You!!!

Seems the frame head is for an earlier type.... So, im still at a loss. Any one looking for an early type frame head or willing to trade me for a new type. PLEASE???? :cry:
