Preferably in or around LA. Honest, helpful, uses good internal parts, I would like them to do complete ,even taking eng. Out of car...recent back surgery. Dual port 1600.
Thanks Thomas

There are many. When I poked around the eastern Ventura County area, several were recommended locally. I'm sure it is the same where you live. Can you narrow "SoCal" down a bit? I feel it is best to have someone recommended personally, and local. You will want to be able to stop in and discuss what is found after teardown, and to choose options and budget.

LA? Benco is trustworthy. Haven't had an engine from him though. Down south there's VW Headflow masters, he is a wizard.

I'm in Mid City LA, by the 10 and La Brea. Looking to add some more notches to my belt...if I had one.

Check out my last build. They all come with build sheets, tons of update text pics, and receipt stack. I now have a run stand to break it in before bringing it back to you. Knowing myself, I'd probably do a few upgrades for longevity while I'm in there.

To repeat the mantra quoted by a few here...

Do you want to fast, cheap, or reliable? Pick any two. Shops may have a choice they cater to, and a mismatch can lead to them not meeting your expectations.

One suggestion for you... it sounds like maybe you have the experience and skills, and maybe the tools from past work, but not the body condition right now. Perhaps a local VW club has a young member eager to learn and can supply the muscle under your guidance. You get it done on your timetable, cheaper, and the kid gets priceless hands-on experience.

He is in Baldwin Park.
