Hello, I am going to repaint the fiberglass pop to and I know people have done this before, what types of paints sealers do I use?
I know and heard of people using a boat paint for fiberglass but I also heard if it isn't sealed properly the old fiberglass will suck it right up. Also What did the old fiberglass look like when it was new? Did it have some sort of gel-coat on it? Shiney, or dull? Thanks for the help!

It had a slight texture to it not perfectly smooth like many fiberglass tops on camper conversions today. It's always been difficult to clean that way. The clue is that the inside was painted the same as the outside but hasn't worn with the weather.

Frankly, any paint will do and the job will only be as good as the prep and the materials used. I'd use a roller or spraygun if I had one but never a spraycan or brush.

Gelcoat was original.

Type2.com has several articles on this topic. Someone suggested marine deck paint, which sounds good after you clean and sand. Home Depot now carries the deck paint for aobut half the cost at West Marine. I am thiking about trying Krylon's "Fusion" paint that is designed to go on plastics.
