View original topic: Stupid brake question

I ordered all new parts for my brakes: master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses and shoes. I got 2 sets of shoes that are identical part numbers. Are front and rear shoes interchangeable?

The diagram in the Bentley manual shows what looks like rear shoes on the front (had the slots for the crossbar). I'm confused ...

Yes front and rear shoes are the same width on a 1970. If both sets have the slots for the cross bar don't worry they will work on the front fine.
Wheel cylinders are different sizes. Fronts are 22mm, rears are 17mm.

Thanks so much! These are weird little cars but I'm bound and determined to figure them out.

I've restored a couple of American cars, everything seems simpler on this one but always a bit different.

VW Bugs are definitely very different from American cars. But everything they did back in the day made very good engineering sense. Ya wanna see some really weird stuff in a car which mostly makes NO sense, try working on an old French car...
