In the process of removing the engine, I have knocked off some of the tags that I used to label some hoses. When lying on my back, looking up at the engine, Feet toward the rear, head towards the steering wheel, I am looking right at my fuel pump/sending unit (I think that is what it is). There are two fittings coming out of it, on the right is a straight tube a little thicker in diameter, and on the left is one with a smaller diameter and curved. My question is which one do I attach the hose that comes from the fuel tank to? And which one do I attach to the hose that goes out toward the engine/carbs? My next project, I am going to draw a few more pictures and not use masking tape labels with a pen that smudges easily.

Yeah, tape sucks. Photos work best.

You've got the mechanical fuel pump in that SOB location tucked under the engine tin to the left of the flywheel? The thicker tube should be the inlet that leads to the tank. Is that the one on the right based on the way you are lying?

yes the thicker one is on the right. Thanks for the help. That is the one that I thought it was, but I didn't want to start pumping things in the wrong direction.

Straight pipe is the inlet. Curved ( bent) pipe is the outlet. I just went through this myself. if you REALLY need to be sure, you can have some one turn the engine over (via the ignition key) for a few seconds while you COVER the holes to the inlet. You'll feel it sucking. And then place your finger NEAR the output pipe and you'll feel little puffs of air.
