I am getting ready to order a set of heads for a 1914 I am building, What size chamber size and deck should I run? I would like to keep it around 8.5-9 compression ratio, I am building a old school motor with a Engel 110 cam if that helps, this will be my first big bore motor, I have always built stockers.

.060" deck and 54cc chambers will give you 8.4 to 1

If you are looking at our heads, I can get them out in 2-3 days for you.

Earthquake, what carb(s)? Even a 110 is moody with a single at idle, or dual singles for that matter.

I call it Old School because the 110 cam is pretty dated but I have a brand new one the shelf. This motor will have a pair of 40mm IDF's, I have a set of 44's but I don't think I will need them. I would like to find a decent 1 1/2" header that does not hang down to low, this is going into a full bodied Class 11 Look a Like. I am thinking about running a full weight flywheel, I have a CW DPR crank and a set of NOS CB 5.4" HD Unitech rods but I may just use a set of rebuilt VW rods and save the Unitech's for a bigger motor.

Sounds like a great combo. Chambers in the mid 50's cc range should be fine with a tight deck of .040-.050", and put you right in the 8.5-9:1 range, which I think is a good goal with that cam and your intended use.

With the 40 carbs and 1.5" exhaust I'd go with 40x35.5 valves and 1.1:1 rockers with the 110.

That sounds about right. I am going to use the stock single port complete heads from ACN and with a deck height of .050 I should be looking at about 8.5:1.
