Ok my new extractor exhaust came from Bus Depot today. They may want to consider working on the packaging. The tail pipe was sticking out of a huge hole and the paper work (invoice) was coming out also. Anyway, I was not expecting the header looking thing. I thought I was going to unbolt the old muffler and bolt this one on. This doesnt seem to be what is going to happen. It is for a 1973 camper. Any help would be great. Am I making this more complicated than it actually is?

I would respectfully ask, not knowing what your set-up is, what the extractor exhaust is hoping to achieve? From what I have heard from the Type 4 gurus, the stock muffler is actually a damn good piece of work for a stock engine. And it bolts right up to your exchangers.

Email the owner via sales@busdepot.com and complain about the packing. If the box looks like it's been used a couple of tires already mention that also.
An extractor normally bolts right onto the heat exchangers which means the cross over tube and the y-piece get thrown away. You'd want to do this if they'd rusted out otherwise a simple replacement muffler will do.
The stock system is indeed quiet but so should the extractor (I've got one to compare). The Monza style exhausts are another story: they are loud. |

The 1972-4 exchangers are just simple simple jacketed J-tubes to the muffler flanges. I think it is the simplest exhaust system this side of a lawn mower.

| Simple unless you consider dual exhaust to be more complicated. |

| Bus Depot is actually known for it's poor packaging, and I guess they haven't changed any in at least 3 years. There have been complaints about that on every VW forum I've ever been on. In my case they shipped 4 KYB shocks with absolutely no packing material in the box. Zero, zip, nadda. Unless you want to count the paperwork. The order they drop shipped from RMMW was packed great, just had the wrong parts in it. Can't win. But they do have great prices and Ron's still a great guy. |

| I have never, ever had a problem with BusDepot's packaging, and I am usually a picky-ass, whining customer. |
