My friend has a '78 Westy with the 2000cc engine, fuel injected. It recently started running crappy and he took it to a garage that told him that he had a burnt valve in the #3 cylinder. They confirmed this by doing a leak down test and #3 was only making 25psi. I ran it the other day and it has no power and it feels like it is only running on 3 cylinders. Is all this consistent with a burnt valve? Should i check for valve adjustment or anything else before tearing it apart? Will a rebuilt head be the only way to fix this? TIA, Todd

2 Litres are notorious for burning exhaust valves. Also for a multitude of cracks in the exhaust ports. I don't remember for sure if a 2.0 is round or square port. But if it is round, you may want to replace the heads with those from an 1800. They seem to last . Maybe Jake has some better answers. Type 4's are his thing. Steve BAP

Shtubby, From looking at a few catalogs for heads it looks like it will have round ports anyway. most places list the square ports as starting in 1979 2000cc engines. I'll probably order a rebuilt head from Jake.
