Greetings - I'll try to explain what I'm talking about and then try to ask the question so as I don't look like a compleate idiot.
Okay what I'm talking about is: The vertical seam that runs from the drip rail (roof), down to the chassis, on the front of the beetle - just in front of the doors - it protrudes from each side of the car about 3/8ths of an inch - everyone got the mental image? #-o .
Okay what I need to know is: I'm replacing bother lower inner fender wells - you know, where the rocks hit and rusts away leaving the front of the heater channel exposed. Well, the sheet metal I got (Fisher Buggies of Tampa) have part of that seam in them and I want to know if the seam is two pieces of metal welded together OR are there three pieces, i.e. one piece inside of an overlapping assembly. In other words do I just cut out some spot welds (from the inner fender well side and peel the seam apart or do I have to grind the seam apart and fill with a piece of sheet metal.
This would be a whole lot easier if I had pictures but I can't get to the car now and wanted to start cutting/grinding fitting the new metal tomorrow.
Best Regards, Rick
P.S. I couldn't find my Muir book so I might have misspelled compleate above. |

| If I'm thinking what your thinking then its a two piece, so drill the spot weld and peel it back enough the put the new panel in. After you finish welding roll the seam back. |
