Did anyone built a stroker engine based on 85.5 mm forged Mahle pistons and a stroker crank with a 82 or 84 mm stroke? Is this possible or would I run into piston length problems? I think this would be a good setup, (lots of torque and good cylinder cooling) for a Thing. One could add a Bugget Turbo System and therfore leave the heads pretty much stock. (more material, stronger and cooler head). What do you think, am I just dreaming? All inputs are welcome!

I know Ronnie in AZ just built an 85.5 X 82 motor.

I personally would run as big of a bore as possible, since it allows for more headwork/larger valves. This is just my opinion though.

I've often wondered about a stroker crank with stock cylinders and heads myself. Don't have the kind of money necessary to experiment though. I'd be interested in hearing experiences too.

Yeah you can stroke and keep the stock size bore... HVW's did a test bed Bus engine not too long ago and had an update article on how it was doing a few months ago.

I think it was only 78 stroke though. since 85.5's don't come in "B" configuration.. ( or do they?) I think to go bigger that 78 would take some tricky machine work/ rod length?

Eric, any way you can get some more info on that engine "Ronnie" built up?

Man am I glad I ran across this!!! :D This topic of building a torque monster has been rolling around in my head for some time.

I've been wanting a motor upgrade for my 68 Squareback. But bottom-end torque is more important to me than top-end speed. (I rarely do 75mph, in my Wrangler. 65 is typical.)

So what do you guys think of such a motor in a Square?
Any Other suggestions?
