I have a '75 BayWindow and I am wondering if anyone has put a porsche engine in, I also want to know which ones will fit. I hear that a 914 will fit, but can any of the turbo engines fit? Or a 944? Thanks in advance

Unless I'm wrong, the stock engine for that year Bus is pretty much the same as the '914 except for the pistons, and heads. With a little creativity, you can probably shove any engine in there you wanted, even a turbo. Generous tweeking of the stock engine (or a 914) will probably give you the best results with the least amount of custom fabrication.

What ecdez sayz is true about the 914....as for any of the other engines, the 911 would be very hard$$$$$$$$ to install and lots of metal fabrication. Don't even mention the 924/944. They are front mounted water-cooled engines. Just improving on the engine you have in there now would be the best bet, economically and mechanically.
Good luck with what you choose to do. :)

The Porsche 914 is a TYPE IV ENGINE... If you have a 1975 Bus YOU ALSO HAVE A TYPE IV ENGINE! The Porsche version was just slightly different.

See www.massivetype4.com and www.aircoledtechnology.com for TIV information The best place on the net for TIV informatin is at the TIV forum at www.shoptalkforums.com

You don't need a conversion, just a more precisely tuned engine.

You mean, you mean I DON'T have a Porsche engine in this baby? After all these years of bragging that I can do 0-60 in . . . well 0-60 at least.
I can do the quarter mile in a quarter of a mile. That VW OOOO logo on the crankcase was just a, it was a. . . a mis-type.
Colin

Jakes right you can do a lot with your engine. I worked at a Porsche shop and the owner said I could have an old 911 engine that was sitting around to put in my bus. But knowing the expense of the engine to tranny adapter and knowing that a rebuild of the engine could cost $10k. I passed. They are great engines but their really engines for rich guys cars. I saw so many people come into the shop feeling smug about how cheap the porsche they picked up was only to find out the car needed $20k. in repairs.
