| I have the bugeye kit and I've seen pictures of bajas that have the hood attached to the hinges. Just like a stock hood. How do I attach the hood to the hinges? |

| You need a dual skinned fiberglass hood, they'll have a lip on the bottom where the hood attaches to like stock. If not, modify your hood or you'll need to run hood pins instead. If you modify it I'd use a metal bracket for the boilts to go through and g'lass the bracket in so it won't crack as easily from the bolts. |

| Also when you do get ready to put the hood on the hinges cut about two inches off of the springs so it isn't as hard to close. That will help the hood from tearing up as easy. Always try to hold the hood easy as not to break it off the hinges. Open it yourself and don't let other people mess with it is my plan. I will break loose from the hinges if not carefull. |

Can any of you send me a picture? or where can I get one of those hoods?
I was thinkin of just throwing alot of fiberglass bondo stuff on and make some brackets to attach the hindges too, or would this be too week. I notice that all the FG hoods with hindges I've seen dont have holes in the top where any metal bracket would go. |

| I have posted some hood bracket pictures on the offroad section for you. The one with the instructions on cutting down the hood springs came out way more blurry than I thought. After all the instructions are laminated under the fiberglass. |

| Thanks! I saw the pictures and they help alot. The kind of fiberglass shown looks different then the type I'm planning on using though. The fiberglass I plan on using is made by bondo and is green in color. Will this type be ok to use instead of the clear kind of fiberglass? |

Thats not really fiberglass! You need to actually mix up resin and use cheesecloth or that (I can't think of the name) shredded fiber matting.
All the hoods I have had (mark V) have all had a built up area with a slotted bracket already installed in them so you just bolt it up. Also, bugeye hoods are VERY weak. My newest hood I backed the whole hood with another sheet of matting and glass and its still a floppy POS. I wouldn't use a spring period. I made mine open suicide style with a piano hinge at the flat front edge and Jeep style hold downs at the rear.
BTW, what did you ever decide on for axles? I talked to a few thing guys that insist they fit fine on a T-1, I just won't be able to test/confirm my setup for myself for awhile as we close and start moving into a new house next week. |

I only saw two pics too.
Where do I get one of those Mark V hoods anyway? Do they have bugeye kits?
As for the axles I think I'm buying the used complete assemblies from thingsunlimited. $50 for each complete assembly! They arent checked over or anything but so what.
I finally decide to get a bus trnsmision but I had an accident, a peice of wood broke off inside the head where the #1 spark plug goes... I was trying to find TDC. If you look in the beetle forum there is a 4 page thread that explains it. Thats the reason I'm not getting the bus tranny anymore. I'll probably have to check the head and spend some cash fixing it if I find any damage. So for now I'm jut going to buy the thing assemblies and lift the rear. |

Ragman posted the link to Mark V, I have their bugeye kit on my car. For that $50 a piece make sure the throw in the bolts and spacers too! Your not paying too much but you can get the assy's cheaper if you look around. I would not be too concerned about them not checking them unless they show up to you with shredded boots, then you know they wre contaminated. You's should clean and repack anyway.
Bummer about the head, at least its a pretty simple job to do especially on a Baja! |

Did you actually talk to them, or just surf their site? I have bought by the piece from them before with no problems. In fact in my print catolog from them lists a baja kits "parts section" with prices, there are no part#'s other than the kit # and the part you want. |
