Straight cut gears have teeth that are parallel with the cam/crank unlike the stock gears that are angled. Gears like the stock ones that are angled are refered to as helical gears. The straight cut gears are used in high performance engines with heavy valve springs because they don't put as much of a thrust load on the cam bearings. Depending on the lash they can also be a bit noisy.

| Correct me if I'm wrong, But I believe the gears out of a 36hp are in between Straight cut and 1600's? I heard that a long time ago. |
