I am building a 1776cc motor as my daily driver and to occasionally run down a drag strip for fun? Will a stock transmission be good enough or should I upgrade. What do you think?

Your confusing a "freeway flier trans" with a short geared trans. They are opposite of eachother.
As fas as your trans holding up to the 1776, it should be fine. BUT, also consider, there are people that can bend a crowbar in a sandbox. I have personally broke a stock trans with a 1600, so just drive normal and don't drop the clutch at 6000rpm. |

I had that happen to me too. on a stock 1600 with a KEP stage 1 clutch. I would make my bug peal out in 3rd gear. I thought I was the sh*t.Till 1 day I lost 3rd and 4th. Isnt much fun driving only in 2 gears.

just make sure you preload the tranny prior to taking off and your stock tranny should hold up.

Can you please explain to me what preloading a transmission means?

i would imagine preloading is to get the clutch to where it just starts to engage but don't burn your clutch out either. That way its not as hard a shock to your tranny or axles when you do drop the clutch..

Picture Mike Tyson getting a chance to pull his arm back and
paste you a good one. You're going to feel it.
That is what happens in your transmission when there
is all that gear lash rattling around waiting.
Now picture Mike Tyson trying to slug you when he has to
hold his hand right against your face and punch without drawing back.
This is what happens when you gently take the clutch out just enough
to get rid of the gear lash before you launch. :D
