My glove box has a decal that lists 19psi for the front tires and 27psi for the back - if using radial tires.
Recently, I mysteriously developed the road shimmy from hell; 32-36mph, 45-55mph, and 64-67mph. I check the tire pressure and it is 38psi all the way around.
It seems that when I had a local guy take a look to see why my valve adjusters were snapping he graciously over-inflated my tires for me.
When I called him on it he claimed that 38psi was right. Well, folks at 19 and 27psi I have NO road shimmy. Admittedly, the car rolls like I am driving on wet cement but at least the steering wheel isn't ripping my hands off.
Who is right here? |

| 38 psi? Don't take your car back to this local guy again. What did he do to your valve adjusters? If he did an adjustment, make sure he set them correctly. |

| Go with the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. If you wonder why there is a difference between the front and rear pressures, I can explain it if you want. |

I assume it is a function of my Super having no weight at all over the front axle and thus the lower pressure lets the wheel deform to keep some semblance of a real footprint.
BTW, a friend borrowed the car once and got a flat. After fixing the flat, the tire dealer pumped up all the tire pressures to 32psi, also.
Are SuperBeetles so special (read antiquated) that no one knows how to service the fricking tires anymore? |

TP;
32 psi (cold) is the typical maximum pressure for radial tires. However, most cars are heavier than old Bugs - especially in the front.
Also, many tire shops and other shops have knot-heads working there that have no common sense, or any understanding of anything the computer doesn't tell them.
You're always better off making sure it's right.

| I run 28lb all around and it does not shimmy, the 19lb in front just made cornering to mushy for me. |
