You might want to ask Mr 010 (Glenn Ring) about that. He's about the only one who would know right off hand.

The 010 does not have # 3 lobe retarded. The Distributor Distributor.

What about the German made 009 from the 70's.

009... yes

010... no

The 0 231 129 010 is a copy of the VJ 4 BR 25 which was installed on the 1960 Bus. This was long before any distributor was retarded on the # 3 lobe.

Most of the aluminum models have a 4* retard on #3.

Educate me... Why the #3 retard on the aluminum distributors?

before the doghouse type shroud (type 1) the oil cooler sat right over cyl #3. It got hotter. VW took 3 or so degrees off of cyl 3 in order to reduce the heat a bit. With the dog house shroud, it opened that air passage up, vw eliminated the #3 retard

Type 3's are 180 out from type 1. So you end up retarding #1...

(please correct me if I'm wrong, this is what I have always thought)

During the mid 1960's the type III distributors were set up the same as the Beetle so even on them #3 was retarded. The 1970's SVDA and DVDA distributors were all 180 out so that part is correct but true for type I also.
