View original topic: Floorpan support bracket?

Bought this from VWHeritage in the UK to replace the end of the one on my 1303, however, apart from being half the thickness of the original metal, it doesn't have the bracket that sits under it which is attached to the u-shaped foot that comes off the torsion tube.

The only picture I can find on the internet showing what it would have looked like was on The Samba, below:

Apparently, the support bracket was longer on the later cars. The only other pic I could find was on a blog from Rhysos (a VZi user).

He's building a sixties car and has this pic of a bracket he's made himself.

The bracket on my 03 seems to go up further as far as the first bolt hole.

I doubt I'm going to use the Heritage cross member panel as it's half the thickness and doesn't have the bracket. I'd be better off making my own I think.

Anyone got any other pictures of what this piece looks like and/or measurements and dimensions?

I believe that's called an outrigger, and some places that sell complete floor pans separate those from the floor pan for cheaper shipping. I had to replace one on my car and got one from Wolfsburg West. I too was not pleased with the thickness of the replacement one, and only used what I needed to make the repair.

I've got the outrigger, but it's the reinforcement bit that sits in the ''foot' that comes off the torsion tube I'm interested in. It isn't part of the new panel and the original is rusted out on my car.

I'm not going to use the panel, I think I'll make my own up once I've sussed what the reinforcement/support bit looks like.

I believe I just used a scrap piece of 12 gauge metal I had to fab up a reinforcement pad to weld to the outrigger and foot coming off the torsion tube.
